Projects

Soup Mekelle
Its core purpose is to democratize funding for local development and social impact projects across Tigray. At each event, grassroots organizations pitch their ideas to an audience over a shared meal. The cost of every bowl of soup purchased serves as a vote, with all proceeds directly funding the project chosen by the community, thereby empowering local voices and bringing their solutions to life.

Writers Program
The Cactus Fruit Journal Writers Program directly extends mission to amplify voices, focusing on local authors and writers in Mekelle, Northern Ethiopia. Its purpose is to overcome barriers to publication by providing essential resources and guidance. We aim to help talented individuals navigate the complexities of the publishing world, ensuring their unique stories, perspectives, and cultural insights can reach a wider audience globally. Through this program, we empower creative expression and contribute to the rich literary landscape of the region.

Fashion with a Purpose
The Cactus Fruit Journal Clothing Drive facilitates a unique exchange right here in Ottawa. Its purpose is to collect gently used clothing from our community and offer it in exchange for donations directly benefiting the Tigray Fund. This initiative provides a sustainable way for local residents to contribute to vital support efforts while also making use of unwanted items, directly connecting our Ottawa community's generosity with the critical needs in Tigray.
